Person: "Please send me times when you are available next week."
Me: "I am available MWF from 12:00p-2:00p"
Person:"I'll see you Friday at 1:00p"

Ok, re-reading again, I am too confused by your wording to know what your asking. By my best interpretation, that before Friday in one week you are asked when you are available, answer, and then the person says they'll see you Friday, they most likely mean THIS Friday else they would have said next Friday, meaning Friday of the next week.

edit: He responded in the same syntax as you, without clarifying this week or next week.

What day did this actually happen? I can't even tell what you're saying.

edit2: Based on your edit, if he actually used the phrase "next week" in his initial inquiry, I would interpret as next Friday.

Mmm. I guess I should clarify things a bit.

The conversation took place on a Monday (last week). The person e-mailed me to schedule a time to meet for "next week" as said above. I responded "MWF from 12:00p-2:00p," like the response above. So, the person responded "Friday at 1:00p then. See you then!" Thus, I assumed next Friday (or May 6th).

Rolling around to Friday, I get an e-mail saying that the meeting was "this Friday," and I had missed the meeting. I e-mailed back saying I assumed that the meeting was next Friday. The response was "because there was no date specified, it should have been THIS Friday."

OP needs to follow up with the other person. If this other person actually meant this Friday, considering logically and grammatically the correct inference is next Friday, then that person should be pummelled with whatever floppy lump of flesh is nearby, be it a dead fish, a live rat, or a room-temp sausage.

Since the person asked your availability NEXT week, I'd presume they will be there NEXT Friday...BUT, since people often don't say what they actually mean, don't be at all surprised if they show up THIS Friday...

If it were Monday and I were scheduling a meet for Friday, I'd say this Friday. If I meant the week after, I'd say next Friday, although I admit that sounds weird because technically the next Friday is this Friday.

You are right. Person said next week and that means next week. But you always have to CYA and eliminate any chance of getting screwed over.
