I don't now how many versions of the 7800GTX are floating around. The only difference I can tell is extras bundled in and the memory and GPU have higher clock speeds.

As far as I can tell, this one is clocked a little higher than the reference 7800GTX, but is otherwise the same...

Right?....

Is it a good choice for the EVGA 7800GTX?

But I mean this particular model. I assume the others are just clocked higher and come with different goodies but all are based on the same reference board.

Well the older one had problems with the fan on he cooler giving out sometimes, but other than that it's fine, should OC easily.

I thought they were the same cards, but they have different part numbers.

The card at Monarch is part # 256-P2-N528-AX
The card at Newegg is part # 256-P2-N525-AX

A Google search led me here and I found this:

"Should you be in the market for one of EVGA's GTX cards, pay attention to the model numbers. The 256-P2-N528-AX and 256-P2-N538-AX BF2 Edition have 450MHz core clock speeds, but the 256-P2-N525-AX (only available on EVGA's website) has its core clocked at 430MHz."

Then Newegg confuses us more by listing their offering with a core speed of 450mhz, which corresponds with the N528 part...but they say it's the N525 part...but the dude at hothardware said the N525 was only available directly through eVGA...Damnit! ...whatever, you wouldn't notice the difference anyway.

I've only dealt with Monarch once and they took one week before they even shipped my case out. Newegg has always been fast with shipping for me. I'd buy from Newegg.

The 525 is an old part number. I dont believe EVGA still makes that one. I would get the card from Newegg, see how high it is by default, then OC the thing and see how high it goes. If the default is less than the advertised 450 core, AND the card wont OC well, send it back for the advertised clock speed version 528+ versions.

As for the KO question, that is a better EVGA version that they sell with even higher clock rates. Their standard GTX version is already OC'ed but their KO's have a larger heatsink/fan combo and thus more expensive as well. I own two KO's and one Non-KO and truthfully I can get them to clock about the same. The KO's I have are running watercooling though and so they edge out the air cooled non-KO by about 25 on the core, and 40 on the memory speeds... But my non-KO gets up to 525Mhz core/ 1.42Ghz memory, so I am not complaining... :)

Actually, I ended up ordering everything but the card until I figure it out. Thanks for the info. I will probably order something with th 28 or 38 part number just to make sure.

I ended up calling EVGA. They told me that the cards were exactly the same and that the serial number was kept to distinguish it from the card sold with the motherboard. He said that at one time the # 256-P2-N525-AX was clocked slower because of heating issues. Most of those were recalled the heat sink was changed but the serial number is still around. I must admiot he didn't sound absolutely sure. This morning I had the card removed from my order before I knew all this and it resulted in it snarling my bank account. (It was paid for with a visa debit card). They charged the whole amount and will take awhile to get credited back again. Anyway, in case someone else runs into this problem, here is the info.

BTW, I will probably order the Battlefield combo anyway which has a serial number listed on the manufacturers website, just to be sure. I know it sounds anal, but I get anal over $500 vid cards.
