dinner time

Not less than 3 hours ago I walked through this door and there wasn't a web there. Let the pooch out to go to the bathroom for the evening and damn near walked right into this. Little bastard has been busy.

That web is a good 18" across. There are dozens of things stuck in there. He's eating good tonight.

:Q

Sorry for the crappy pic...it's hard trying to focus on something in the dark 😛

there is a Cross Orb Weaver on our deck in the corner by the stairs that has set up shop for the past week. Wastes idle time in a crevice of the railing and at night sits on the web. After a storm the web was basically destroyed, but over night completely remade it, better than before even. Web's about a foot across, just due to the location it really can't get any bigger. But another spider of the same species, a smaller one, had set up next to the kitchen door and that web was easily 2' in diameter. I actually am wondering if it was the same one and she finally managed to find her way back to the deck after a long time.
I hate spiders, but find them intriguing in their natural element, and love orb weavers for the work they put into their webs.

I miss the days Ornery would blast you for not using a sony with hologram AF.

HA! But even with that though, I don't know if it could have even focused in on something like this. It's not like you are pointing it at someones head. This is on something the size of a quarter and a web that's a fraction of fishing line.

One day I was leaving work with my wife (we work at the same place), and she told me to come look at something. There was a cubicle that had a spider web across it, thing was gigantic, and it was a normal sized spider (1" or so across with legs). It must've taken days to do that, nobody bothered cleaning it up since there wasn't anybody sitting in that area.

a spider of any size can build a gigantic web essentially overnight. But it may not always be complete. Orb Weavers are obsessive-compulsive about a clean and neat web, and put a lot of detail into it. Some species, however, just make a messy web. Some are in-between, and some make orb-style webs that aren't as intricate.

Haha, trust me I've been there, except I tried during daytime. Even with manual focus, I still couldn't get a clear picture of damn spider. Still, what happened to Ornery? He provided a bit of sandpaper here in the forums.

The morning after I took these, he and his web were gone without a trace. Huge web, too.

What spider is that?

looks a lot like a Cross Orb Weaver, very common yard spider. or just a generic orb weaver, known simply as the garden orb weaver (many orb weavers have had this name used for this, just because different regions may have different common orb weavers).
SPIDER!
