I baught a P2B off of Ebay a little over a week ago and just recieved it in today. I got a celeron with it and some ram. All this stuff was shipped to me in one motherboard box and everything was in it's own static baggy. I took out the motherboard for some ogling before leaving for work (I work evenings, just got it before leaving) and noticed to my horror.... The BIOS chip was half out of it's socket, and bent back with all the exposed pins bent right up under it, as if something just rolled over it. I guess it was the processor sitting ontop of it and those careful UPS guys. Anyways, I didn't have time to check it out, I bent all the pins back carefully and stuck it back in it's socket. What do you think the chances are that it will work? This sucks, and it's my first ebay purchase too, now I know why I was wary of it for so long.

Pins get bent all the time. If you carefully straighten them and get the chip back in the socket facing the right way you should be in good shape. The indent on the end of the chip should match the silkscreened image on the board.

Yeah.. I figured if this board worked when this guy sent it to me, then it should still work. I'm just worried about damage that might have been caused by static, or discharge from the actual CMOS chip, because all the pins were touching one another and so on. 😱 I didn't exactly ground myself either before straightening out those pins.... I was eager.

yeah.. I hope that when I get home tonight it works and I love it as much as you loved yours. If I get the thing working... what are my chances of getting my celeron 333 to hit 500 ... (5.0x100)???

Years ago when I stol...took....uh....appropriated....a pentium 120 chip I slide it in my boot and upon walking home it slipped under my foot and of course more than 100 pins got bent flat. Many hours of using needle nose pliers and straightening out the pins it worked just fine.
