Apparently shout cast stations are legal because they have to pay royalties. Also rippers for these shout cast stations are also legal. So, technically I can still download MP3's for free and not be legally persecuted???
 
you mean prosecuted .. 😉 Most shoutcast stations play at a low bitrate .. nobody cares if you record a radio broadcast onto a cassette tape, for example. The RIAA is mostly concerned with higher quality downloads.
