Hi,

I have a big problem with computer's costumers.

The computer is:

Athlon XP 1600+ (1.4ghz)
Epox 8KHA
256 DDR (Infineon)
GeForce2 MX400 64megs TV/out
HD 20gig Maxtor D740X-6L (7200rpm)
CD-ROM LG 52X
CD writer LG 16X10X40
Floppy Panasonic
Modem Aopen FM56-PM
Sound Card (VIA onboard)
Power Supply 300W P4 (nice quality)

Ok... the problem is: I install Windows XP Home, ANY problem during the installation. 2 day later, they is a error message. It's a message about a corrupted file. (during the start up before graphic mode) No stress just go on knowledge base of microsoft and it s ok the computer is repair. 1 week later a other error message(similary of the first but is not the same file). I don't take any chance, a rebuilt a new computer to give at this very good costumer.(it s the reason of this changement). The computer ready, the windows XP home has reinstalled and since 3 days i reboot them, play card but i don't go on internet and don't install any software and game.(the only software install is: VIA4in1 and Easy CD creator 5 basic) This morning i reboot the computer and what i see??? A similary error message.(This files is erase or corrupted \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM, you can try to repair... bla bla bla)

At this time, i don t think it s a defect piece because all is changed (exept CD-Writer LG 16X10X40)

I don't think it s a incompatibility between the periphicals, but between WinXP and a periphical i don t kown.

I don't think it s a incompatibility between WinXP and software (just to software installed: Via4in1 the last version, and Easy CD creator)

Thanks to advance... and a big thanks to have take the time to read my bizarre english...sorry to scrap your language!!!

Don't install Via's 4-in1's!!!! Microsoft makes better 4-in-1's than Via :) Just let WinXP take care of all chipset drivers and you will be fine...also visit windowsupdate and update everything...

Do you have another stick of ram you could try? Software just doesn't "go bad", it sounds like bad ram is corrupting your drivers.
Only other thought I have is that even though you have a good quality psu, is it from the AMD approved list? The epox boards really like a quality psu, 300W is minimum, you might be better off with a 340W or higher..

For the Power Supply i had a COGEDEN 300W... on the AMD's list for this manufacturer AMD recommend COGEDEN 350W... i have change that for a Future Power 400W(certified by Intel... i don't have a recommend power supply by AMD in the store)... for the RAM i try with 3 RIMMS

well there's the problem, u're installing RIMMS into DIMM banks...

anyway, i'd have to agree w/ Rustynale...sounds like a memory issue - set your mem. timings conservatively - and load the fail safe bios settings...your stick of ram might be bad - swap it out for another if you can.

If you've been getting all the WinXP updates, try re-installing WinXP and *not* getting the updates. The updates, in typical MS fashion, are utter crap for many people.

ah ah...i hope that any person think i try RIMM inside a DIMM bank =P

I try with a different DIMM at each Windows XP installation (3 differents DIMMS)

For the windows update i had try 3 times too without good result.

Have you obtained all the updates for EZ CD Creator 5? It and windows XP don't get on well together.

Check the memory timings also, like others have suggested, keep an eye on cpu temps, don't use VIA 4in1's, and check the hard drive settings/cables - it could possibly be hard drive corruption.

Other than the above, for every component in the system, make sure you have an XP compatible driver installed, preferably a signed driver.
