I've been pretty happy so far with my mitubishi tv purchases. I've owned 3 rear projection, the last and current being a 62 inch DLP thats about 5 years old or so. I've been thinking about selling it before it needs a new bulb and was hoping to get $300ish for it with the stand I built. I can get a 73 inch DLP from tigerdirect after BCB for around $1500.00 with stand, a little cheaper if I wait for a Dell sale.

The recent crop of DLP's dont seem to suffer from any issues like the old style I have do--bad caps that necessitate a chassis rebuild. I rebuilt mine and it works perfectly, but I just have this nagging feeling that sometime in the future its going to go out again, hopefully years down the road.

Whats the largest plasma or lcd I could get in the $1500.00 range that would not be bottom of the barrel? I'm pretty sold on the dlp because its in my basement and the viewing angle is maybe 20 degrees at most from any seat.

I own a current gen Mitsu DLP and the off angle viewing is much better than older rear project sets. For $1500 I'm guessing the largest panel you can get is maybe 60" tops. I'm very happy with mine and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. Another good selling point is bulbs are now about $100 direct from Mitsu. Can't argue with that. What I don't get is that the 60, 65, 73 and 82 all share the same bulb. Seems to me you'd want more output for the larger sets but hey, what do I know?

I know I'm loving my 52" mitsu DLP, much better than the ~50" LCDs I've seen (I can actually view from different angles oh wow! :| ....)

If he wants a front projector, he's still better off with DLP.:p

due to the setup of my basement, I need a TV and stand and cannot use a projector/screen combo. Wish I could, but the space will not allow as the TV acts as sort of a divider between my wife's sewing area and the rest of the room. Hard to describe.

Build a wall and use that as your screen with a DLP 1080P for under a grand. 120"+ screen and you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner!

If the physical size of the DLP isn't an issue, I don't know why you'd ever consider an LCD or plasma in the same price range. Seriously, 73 inches vs 50-60? Hell no!

Now, if you were comparing a 50 inch LCD to a 50 inch DLP, I'd say you're crazy to buy the DLP.

Well, your point is shot because the smallest DLP I've seen is 60" and is MUCH cheaper than a comparable LCD ;)

But, unless you want to wall hang there's really no good reason to get flat panel over a DLP IMHO.

He's correct, you can get the 73" for under $1500 on the right day. I want to say I've seen it for ~1200 in the near past. If I wasn't holding out for something in the 80+ range...

The larger size was tempting and I'm not really sure I need all the features of the the 8 series but I really like my 65" set (WD-65837). I paid $1500 for it in January.
