This can't be right I changed thebclk to 170 and now it shows my I7 860 running at 3.6??? It can''t be that easy to overclock surely. Is my CPU really running at 3.6? My cpu is iding at 62 using the stock heatsink. That's the next thing is a new heatsink. But can this be right?? Its seems all too easy to overclock this thing if true..

I think it got to about 80. But I have a very well vented and air cooled case. I'm going to be putting on the coolermaster 212 plus heatsink tomorrow with a 120mm scythe fan. It just seems way to easy if this is correct. I mean at this rate I could easy overclock this thing to 4ghz on stock cooling and stock volts...

I ran Intel's burn in test and it passed fine. I've got the Coolmaster 212 Plus on it now with a 120mm Scythe fan. Its idling at 40 and load about 65

you got a good chip to boot. 3.6 fire and forget? did you have to up the voltage? if you didnt and it passed IBT that's impressive, since the 860s seem to need voltage no matter what cause of the on die PCI-e controller

Didn't change anything, no memory timings or voltage. And yes it did pass 1TB

At least some ASUS boards will automatically change voltage to match the increase in BCLK. Most boards/CPUs will run with less v than is automatically set. That's why everyone sets voltage and then OCs until they have to increase it and then continues doing that until they are happy with OC and temps.

And yes, it is simple to OC these, up to a point. After that point, you will have to do other/more things than just change BCLK.

ya, good luck getting it past 4! though you may have an easier time than ppl with the i5. We shall see, GL. Just keep vcore under 1.4 and QPI VTT in safe range as well.

Maybe you didn't change anything but the motherboard may have changed the voltages automatically, and you might be putting 1.45v through that cpu without even knowing. I have the Asus P55 as well, and when leaving the bios options in "auto" it automatically raises voltage when raising the base clock.

3.6 is a pretty simple overclock for an 860 and 920. :X
