They tried to charge me $114 to disconnect the service. I call customer service and said I spoke with a rep. when I open the account and ask this exact question: "Is there a cancellation fee?"
rep answered : "Yes. the first six month it would cost you x amount to cancel, but after that you can cancel the service any time you want" (the fee within the first 6 months was less than $114 ... something like 59).

I asked them if they can retrieve the conversation and verify... they keep repeating the same crap. They won't do it.
Since I opened the service via phone, isn't the recorded conversation the contract ? Do I have a right to request that ?

Now I just have an old visa gift card in my profile so they aren't getting any $ from me until I figure this out.

I feel like I am being scammed... so now i have to write a letter to the dispute department.

This call may be monitored/recorded for quality assurance. Doesn't mean they keep the recordings around for very long or that they have to provide them to you.

Tell them you would like a copy of the agrrement you signed. If they can not produce it tell them you want to cancel right now.

Trying to avoid paying by using a non-working CC number will probably cause you more problems in the future.

I just wouldn't pay them. Your credit will take a small hit, but that'll get straightened out over time.

I have to listen to it again. I think all calls are recorded.

So far my balance is only $24. I doubt they try to go after me for that amount.

Get the agreement you signed and go from there. If you have a legitimate claim present it. If they reject it your best option may be to pay it then sue for the damages. If you dont pay you take a hit on your credit. If you pay then sue chances are high if you have it in writing some lawyer will instruct them to pay it rather than send somebody out to defend it.

They may batch it up with a bunch of other low balance accounts and sell them to an agency for a very low price. Maybe.
