This bothers me, why does college cost so much to attend?

Professors, administrators, general staff, janitors, building maintenance, supplies, utilities, coaches, room, board, it all adds up.
I'm sure your cost wouldn't be that high if it didn't take all that money to pay for everything you need while being in college.

And they have to subsidize the people that don't pay for it, like me! mwahahaha

Plus once you attend you realize how cheap it is. My electric bill per month is $60 - $70 right now and I shut things off. Back in college everything was on 24/7. Then you add in the vandalism and maintainance associated with rowdy students. It adds up fast.

You're paying for all of the dumbass jock atheletes that get free rides and then proceed to party every night, get all the hot chicks, and then flunk out of school.

College doesn't actually cost what the total "Bill" is. That's just a number they make some percentage of students pay to subsidize the poorer students. My school costs $34k a year, and I pay $0 :)

BU and Brandeis are both pretty expensive. Of course I forget Harvard, MIT, BC, and my alma mater Babson. Come to think of it, all Massachusetts schools cost an arm, a leg, and a testicle.

They bring in more money than students ever will. If they suck the school sucks, the merchandise sales go down (if its a big school), ect ect ect....

NY schools aren't so cheap either. Maybe they just wanna be like Mass? :) It's a school very near to albany that has a three letter acronym similar to MIT. Not very well known outside of tech fields. Has a pretty good hockey team with two national div 1 titles to its name. And if you can guess, you get a star.

"They bring in more money than students ever will" - You wish, how much money comes in from contributions from Alumni every year?

I'm looking for Distance Learning to really take off. More and more colleges are offering programs so they aren't left behind by other schools.

As far as the cost of college now, toolgirl's list is right, but don't forget all the extraneous classes that are required for your degree. I bet at least 25% of them are required just to keep those professors and administrators employed. :|
