This App Can't Open

Apparently some Windows 8 apps get disabled in an attempt to force you to update. I had an app that refused to open but I had no internet so I couldnt update it. So it was basically just in a broken useless state. As soon as I got internet I updated the app and it worked fine. How do I prevent this sort of situation from happening? It is beyond retarded, completely stupid, and totally dumb and I dont want to ever see something this stupid ever again.

Don't use software you don't control. Libre software doesn't do that because nobody wants that "feature". If that "feature' were included, it would be removed by someone else, and re-released.
