I would really appreciate it if someone could enable me to use my computer as an alarm-clock again by telling me what is causing this sound and how to get rid of it.

It makes itself known at random intervals..sometimes two sounds slightly on top of each other, sometimes fifteen minutes between each. I've talked to a lot of people, but no one knows what causes it. Turning off all windows-sounds doesn't help. Running without any programs in the background doesn't help. Antivir & Antispyware do not help. Help is needed. :/

if turning off all windows sounds doesn't help (I.e. muting all sounds), then it sounds like a hardware issue and not software. Some hard drives can have the "click of death." Can you isolate where the sound is coming from?

I meant that I set the windows sound-theme to no sounds. Other programs can still make sounds. This is definitely coming from the speakers, and it was recorded that way. Didn't you recognize it? I've heard it on at least 7 other computers : /
