That's why T-Rex was so angry all the time.

Little known fact: T-Rex was actually an herbivore, but just killed other dinosaurs because they mocked him.

2nd graders are confused by it probably because it's bull. Birds are not living dinosaurs by most respectable definitions.

Are you a creationist, or just not happy they didn't use the term evolved dinosaurs?

Haha. Definitely not a creationist.

I just hate how some people try to oversimplify stuff to the point where it just becomes wrong.

It would have been just as easy and more accurate for them to say that chickens are distant relatives of feathered dinosaurs.

I agree that the statement that birds are living dinosaurs is overly simplified, but it certainly teaches more about evolution than just saying that birds are related to dinosaurs. We're talking about 1st and 2nd graders.

Chickens are living dinosaurs in the same way that humans are living Juramaia.

This. Birds evolved over time from feathered dinosaurs.

Crocodilians are the closest thing to a "living dinosaur". Apparently they're also the closest living relative to birds. Saltwater crocs are also known to occasionally eat bears. Badass.

I'd say that calling chickens dinosaurs is far more confusing.

What's sad though, is this seems to have perpetuated itself to adults too, since it seems to be a commonly repeated myth now.
