This all seems so confusing to me.

When I first got my computer, my 3200+ Winchester @ stock speeds was idling at 31C. After about 4-5 months, it's now idling at 38C, still at stock speeds. I havn't removed the HSF, reapplied TIM, or anything. The only time I touched it was to wipe some dust off. Case airflow hasn't been altered. I HAVE however installed a hard drive HSF, and zalman VF-700CU on my 6600GT. Most importantly, is this a safe temp? and just to satisfy my curiousity, does anyone know what might be causing this?

EDIT: havn't checked load temps yet. My bios fan speed controller is set to this

Low = 30C
Med = 31C
High = 32C

I looked at the fan RPM and it's defenitly running at high speed right now. It's sortof ironic because when the cpu was cooler, the bios speeds were set to default which is

Low = 40C
Med = 55C
High = 60C

obviously the default was way too hot, but for some reason it was running cooler that way. I tried resetting the bios back to normal, but it didn't do any good and the CPU temp actually jumped from 38C idle to 40C idle.

Probably dust. Dust covering the intake or output ducts or fans. Dust in the CPU heatsink and/or fan. Get some compressed air and go to town on the inside of your case.

Or it could be the room is a little warmer now. What was the case/board temp 4-5 months ago vs. today?

I would think anything less than 40c at idle is ok.

You wouldn't believe that crap that is probably clogging your fans and heatsink right now.

I have found that removing cat hair clog from from intake fans= ~5C

using can of compressed air after that on everything inside (especially CPU heatsink)= ~2 or 3 more degrees :)

Okay, Thanks. I'll do that as soon as I can and I'll see how much of a difference there is.

A dust filter on your case's air intakes is much easier to clean up than dusting the whole system, by the way.
