Hey. Im shopping for a new monitor. My old one died. I found this one on newegg.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001068

SAMSUNG 997mb-TwoTone Silver-Black 19" CRT Monitor

Screen Size 19"
Viewable Size 18"
Specs: Maximum Resolution: 1920x1440 @ 65 Hz
Recommended Resolution: 1600x1200 @ 76 Hz
Dot Pitch 0.20mm
Horizontal Fresh Rate 30~96kHz
Vertical Fresh Rate 50~160Hz

I dont have more than about 180 bucks to spend. This a good buy? Only think im worried about is the refresh rate at the higher resoultions. I will be using it with my Xbox 360.

I have a 997DF that I really like. From the specs you listed it looks like the 997mb has finer dot pitch. I'd say it's a good deal.

I do not mind buying refurbished as long as it stays true to the specs of the manufacture and it does not die on me two years down the road.

Can i trust Azatek?

The 997DF/MB (same tube, same specs) is a great gaming monitor. To get higher frequencies you need a higher horizontal refresh rate. For example, the Mitsubishi 930SB (if you can find one) is a 110 KHz monitor.

I don't know...buying refurb AG CRTs these days is risky (usually come with some kind of problem)....you can ask a lot of forum members about that. To be honest I don't know if it's worth going through that trouble unless you really demand high brightness.

The Samsung 997MB looks excellent. I've had good luck with everything Samsung (though I haven't had any of their CRTs) so call me a fanboy, but it looks awesome for the price.

Dude, get the 17" LCD flat-panel monitor from Dell.com, for $250. They are awesome. That's the best you'll get for the price.

If you want for gaming, get the 2405 FPW 24 inch Wide Aspect monitor...$1000, sometimes with coupons itll come down to $700. It is flawless. 1000:1 contrast, 12 ms response, 1920 x 1200 resolution ,you can't go wrong.

I'm sorry, but it seems kind of pointless to buy a 2405 fpw for gaming since you have to run it in its native resolution for the best image quality and since its native res is so high, you need alot of graphical power to drive that thing. A refurb aperture grill monitor would definitely be your best bet for your price range.

I have the 997mb along with a Samsung 915N 19" lcd. While the 997mb is a great monitor, there really is a big difference with the two monitors. The lcd just seems brighter and crisper no matter how the settings are. Also a 19" lcd will have a larger viewing area than a 19" crt. I really regret getting a crt to go with my lcd. So, if you can get the money together, I'd go with an lcd. But if that is out of the question price-wise, the 997mb is a very good buy.

From the people I've read about getting monitors from Azatek, I can't remember someone saying they got a dud.

If I needed to replace my 19" NEC, I'd be going for a 21" or 22" CRT from Azatek.
