This card has been out long enough now, whats the excuse? OEMs? Yeah right.. so they are going to hold a lock down on these FOREVER? Can they not produce MORE?
Are they selling PCs with 6800GT so fast that its making their heads spin?

Anyway, I'm looking into the 6600GT.. ya it doesnt feel nearly as good knowing i have a monitor that needs the power for 1680x1050 and that this thing will be borderline.. and I dont even use AA/AF.

/kick dirt

I'd pay $450 for a 6800GT, but thats all I think they are worth. If I could find one for that price I'd do it in a second.

I've been playing the waiting game this long (I'm on a AXP 1700+/GF4 4200)..

I'm thinking about just waiting this round out, because if the 6800GT in PCIE isnt ready yet for "big time" so that we can order one, then I dont know if it ever will be.

I dont see what is going to change anytime soon. O well time to grow patience again.

Most manufactures mark up the asking price of their premium goods high and usually sell their stock inventory at close to cost to keep up with competition and reap maximum profits. So the reason cards like the 6800 GT and Ultra and X800's and 6800 pci-e are so rediculously priced is because card makers know that some fanatic consumers are willing to pay $100's of dollars more for a mere 5%-10% increase in performance over what they can get from a lesser card. So as long as people are willing to pay premium prices for these cards the makers will continue to limit production to keep prices high and reap huge profits for fewer goods sold.
In short what drives the high end market for goods is supply and demand. As long as there are people willing to pay outrageous prices for goods limited by production by the manufacture of that good prices will continue to be high.

But that doesnt explain why this is going on forever. Will a 6800GT in PCIE ever be going for MSRP, besides that chumbo deal that the entire nation cannot get in on..?

I'm even looking into the X800Pro pcie, now that is saying something (that im pissed).

Thats a lot to pay for 12 pipes. I found a couple 6800nu cards that apparently can be softmodded to 16 pipes for ~$100 less. Maybe you should look into that card?
