Interesting article detailing how Jackson got to this point and it’s been building since the 70s

Meanwhile what did the Governor get done this year?

Anti CRT
Making abortion illegal

The so called pro life Governor didn’t do shit for the Jackson residents

Priorities

Hey, stop trying to divert this thread. It is about how P&N folk are extremists and are crazed meanies for pointing out the effects of GOP policies.

I do note that the article you cited points out the feds are stepping in and picking up the bill-AGAIN. The probable result I pointed out on page one of this thread.

Of course, the latter was so much MORE important for the continuation of civilization.

Funny but I can't seem to recall ANYTHING even close to this wide-spread happening in any of the New England states.

Sure you'll see the occasional "boil-water" warning usually due to a water-main break but they normally only last hours to at most a couple days in extreme cases.

Mississippi's State Government is a bad joke and just like in Texas I have exactly ZERO sympathy for any adult living in that $hithole who voted Republican..... they made their bed have fun lying in it.

(and better hope the local grocery is stocked up on Poland Spring!)
Agreed, yeah there may be limited issues in pretty specific areas however those issues get fixed promptly.
Water bans in my area typically consist of hand watering of plants only, no sprinklers to be used.
Fuck I live in a City which to until recently still had some lead fittings. They monitored the fittings and adjusted the (pH I think) of the water. It’s okay to have something that is old you simply need to monitor it which is where the southern states typically fail.

The City of Jackson cannot fix things without funding from the state.

While searching for confirmation that the federal government had stepped in, I did find a news story that said the situation has apparently gotten a little better.

And here is former NFL great Deion Sanders' take on the situation:

I've never seen so many people get so excited about people that are suffering.

I wonder if we should all laugh at California (or western states) people when the state catches fire again because they don't maintain their power lines or keep the underbrush cut back.

Sad.

Sure Trump Jr. 🙄 How you see this thread of expressed exasperation as excitement of others suffering rather than exasperation due to bad State infrastructure management is mind boggling. Then you bring up ‘liberal” California as an unrelated aside to try and reframe it as “liberals” excited over suffering and how they won’t like it if it happens to them is bigly sad

This place is an epic wasteland. I actually am surprised it hasn't become a liability issue for the company that owns Anandtech, there's a shit ton of extremist stuff in P&N -- which, typically points the finger at extremists on the other side of the road!

You know the place is rowdy when Democrats aren't safe from Democrats. It's typical to have your ass ran up a flagpole if you're a Republican but holy shit even Democrats are getting persecuted these days.

They are running out of Republicans to beat on.

Well, hey, these hard times should create the hard men you're hard for, right? Then they can create good times. Once they're nice and hard for you.

Given the cities financial situation how were they supposed to pay for a new water system? It was up to the state to help and they did nothing.

Oh, I won't say nothing, they passed a law to outlaw the teaching the full truth about slavery and race in their schools.

The better to keep their racist attitudes intact and feeling good about themselves. Keeping the state's kids ignorant about the many despicable things their ancestors perpetrated against another race of people here in the USA, especially as it relates to the numerous slaveowners who were devout Christians solves quite a few problems for the folks who own and operate that state of which includes their clergy.

Lived in Mississippi my entire life in the north half. Go ahead, make fun. I don't fucking care.

Jackson has slowly turned into a third world country over the past 30 years so. Many wealthy people used to call it home but the white flight beginning in the 1980's has killed its tax base. Now all the rich white people live in the suburbs surrounding the city. Madison, about 15 miles north, is probably the greatest concentration of mansions and wealth in the state.

The infrastructure of the city is crumbling. Worst streets in the state, raw sewage backing up into residential neighborhoods, terrible drainage, and now the water problem.

It's hard to pin it on one particular thing. Incompetence and corruption at the local level (democrats), indifference at the state level (republicans), and no tax money is why the city is a shithole.

There will be 1000 articles about poop on the streets of San Francisco for every one article about poop in the water in Mississippi. Americans have been conditioned to not care about the South, most see it like third world already.

I people are conditioned not to care about a lot of people period. But they do seem to hate others with increasing ferocity.

The seldom spoken truth about the water woes in Jackson, Miss., is abject racism and a myriad of excuses.

And, according to at least one member, the Mayor of Jackson must be responsible for this, too:

The state auditor says $70 million in federal welfare funds went to Favre, a volleyball complex and a former pro wrestler in a scandal that has rocked Mississippi.

The saga, which has been boiling at low grade for 2½ years, drew new attention in July, when the state welfare agency fired a lawyer who had been hired to claw back some of the money, just after he issued a subpoena seeking more information about the roles of Favre and the former governor, Phil Bryant, a Republican. The current governor, Republican Tate Reeves, acknowledged playing a role in the decision to sack Brad Pigott, accusing the Bill Clinton-appointed former U.S. attorney of having a political agenda. But the state official who first uncovered the misspending and fraud, auditor Shad White, is a Republican.

Just more “excellent” Republican leadership.

And every one of those fuckers found responsible should be held accountable and is any laws were broken tossed in jail. Gov., Mayor, City Council all of them if need be.

I live in a red state and our city has proposed a 32% water rate increase this year and an additional 3% next year because they are close to becoming insolvent. I honestly don't think they know what the hell they are doing. There has also been great cost increases for things like chlorine, water pipe, labor, etc. These costs increases should be affecting all water treatment facilities nationwide.
Sounds normal to me. I live in a solid blue state, my cities water department is the only office I don’t like. Nobody can explain why my water bill can suddenly jump or explain why I have one of those high tech water meters that report wirelessly why my water readings tend to be estimated multiple months per year. Simply put water isn’t as cheap as we expect it to be.
Good news is my city appears to be doing major upgrades like when my road was re-paved three years ago they put in new water lines with larger pipes that I think I remember the project engineer saying were rated for 75 or 100 years of service. Stuff like that costs money and I am okay with spending money on long term improvements.

The article got into more detail into costs and none of them were cheap. They are also slowly doing improvements here but it's one step forward and two steps back. There have been two major water main breaks near my house. One just a couple of weeks ago. I believe they are also trying to separate drain water from sewer water in the process which is good.
