I have a WAMU card I rarely use. Back in around April 2006 was the first time I recieved a call for a purchase that was not mine and the card was cancelled and a new one sent.

Six months later I see two charges for over $400 to Ithaca Times and another magazine for a Bulldog breeding ad placed nationally by a 'Reverend something'. Card was again cancelled and a new one sent.

Now about 14 months later, I get a call for $2000 to some Wool Garden in Pennsylvania. They are being hit with a barrage of false transactions this morning...they have names and CC#'s but all the addresses have been random characters.

Just cancelled the card...when I get the new one I am going to pay it off and close it permanently.

Not one of my other cards has ever been compromised and this card I rarely use.

Anyone have any similar issues?

Sounds like it's bigger than just your account... or perhaps one of the middlemen handling the CC transactions is less than honest?

I don't know where I'm going
But, I sure know where I've been
Hanging on the promises
In songs of yesterday
An' I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time
But, here I go again
Here I go again
Tho' I keep searching for an answer
I never seem to find what I'm looking for
Oh Lord, I pray
You give me strength to carry on
Cos I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams
An' here I go again on my own
Goin' down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An' I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time
I'm just another heart in need of rescue
Waiting on love's sweet charity

An' I'm gonna hold on
For the rest of my days
Cos I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams
An' here I go again on my own
Going down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An' I've made up my mind

I've been hit twice on my GM Card. The first time was quite a few years ago, 11 Euro charge from somewhere in France. The second time was this past December. $200 worth of Amazon.com gift certificates & a $10 a month AOL account. The Amazon gift certificates I can understand, but an AOL account? I know CC scammers will charge a small amount to see if the card works, but according to the statement the AOL account was setup after the Amazon gift certificates.

At least WAMU called you and told you about the fradulent activity. I didn't find out about it until I got a statement in the mail for a card that I haven't touched in probably five years. Good job with your fraud notifications HSBC.

It's a ghetto bank, but I have a lot of accounts with them. I never go inside the branch except for express deposit and foreign wire transfers to Japan. Both are quick.

My BoA accounts are great too but they are very balance sensitive and wire transfers are $50ish or so a pop.

I had two different CCs hit in the last few weeks. Cancelled them and got new ones. I also got a new debit card for safety sake. I'm guessing somehow, somewhere someone rifled through my wallet and got the numbers...I can't fathom how else they got them. Checked my credit reports and they were all fine...thankfully.

One CC, a Chase MasterCard was hit for $1.00 at some magazine/catalog merchant, the AMEX Blue was hit for $34 at worldemail.com. AMEX was great at notifying me, they sent me an email about an hour after the charge was made. I found out about my MC when my the account didn't appear online and I was automatically routed to the fraud department when I called customer service. 3 days later I got a letter in the mail saying they tried to contact me regarding potential fraud activity...which was bullshit.

There is a gas station near where I use to live where, if I used my credit card there, within a week I got a call from the CC Co. saying there was fraudulent activity on my card.

This was 13+ years ago, so they did not have the wide intertubes to conduct their dastardly deeds that we have today. All of the fraudulent charges were within 10 miles of the station.

I figured they either had a slimy employee (or, worse, slimy owner) or their CC upload system was compromised. In any event, I just stopped going there and have not had any problems since.

no trash divers...none of the activity has been local or even a 12 hour drive. I am thinking somehow my problem is from my first card still being linked up with my new accounts.
