Hey guys,
Genuine branded spare batteries for our cameras seem rather expensive at first sight, but are they? I've seen a lot of third party batteries that are going for much less than the branded ones and I have read plenty of positive reviews about them, but are they as good as the real deal?
But to add to the confusion, there's also a lot of batteries being sold on a plethora of online selling platforms [and probably on some physical stores as well?] that are clearly "counterfeit branded batteries" and, sometimes, their sellers won't hesitate much telling you the thruth.
As an example I went to one of the many online selling platforms available for purchasing goods from China and I searched for what--at first sight--looked like genuine SONY NP-FG1 batteries. Then, I proceeded to ask some of the sellers whether those batteries they were selling were in fact genuine Sony batteries or fake Sony-branded batteries and here's some of the answers that I've got from them:
Sometimes, their use of the English language may be far from perfect--and so is mine--, thus one can never be totally sure what they really meant to say. But in any case, I know now for sure fake branded batteries do exist. But I'll have to leave for the engineers to tell us whether they're of an equivalent quality to the genuine batteries. Of course, there will be always the issue of iligitimate trademark usage.
