I work on the 8th floor of a 20 story office building on the Schuylkill River (Philadelphia). From my current home in the next county, it's an hour and a half commute, much of it done at <10mph.
Got a phone call about an hour into it that went like this.
Person of authority: "Turn around and go home. The river is going to crest tonight, but there's already water pouring into the parking lot. They've cut most power to the building and they don't think we can climb over the sandbags. Work from home today."
Me: "Is there an end-user VPN I can hit to get access to the network?"
Person of authority: "We have one but you aren't configured for it yet. Sorry but we can't get you email either. Just go home and google <nature of our business>."
I don't know whether to 😱 or
