No they are not. Take a look at the Toughbooks from Panasonic

That's a whole different class of notebook as well, and tend to be thicker- for the real toughbooks. They are not a standard notebook.

-- IBM will be shifting all of their PC division ppl to Lenovo and monitoring every aspect of Lenovo's performance for the next 5 years after the merger actually occurs.

What is the difference between the T42 and T43?
-- I would stay away from the T43 unless you have to have the newest technology. It does have slightly better performance since it is based on the Sonoma Pentium M platform, but comes with worse battery life. Since the Sonoma's draw more power they also run hotter and the T43 14" I am reviewing right now has its fan running a lot, kinda annoying.

Go for a T42 if you're shopping for a Thinkpad, they're a great value right now
