Holy crap! 8 hours without the ultrabase thingy? It sucks it doesn't have an included optical drive without having to resort to the ultrabase and I didn't see a DVI connection on it. Otherwise that's a pretty kickin machine. The price isn't that bad, most people interested in thin laptops like this know you have to pay for quality. And the $2300 price does include the ultrabase.

Thanks for reminding me about the DVI. I COMPLETELY meant to discuss that, but forgot to add it in. That's in there now

The review is awesome! It's a shame they didn't decide to build in a touchpad. Any idea of what the battery life would be like using other batteries?

You want a built in optical drive, you are going to have to deal with more thickness and weight. True ultra portables have always been about compromise - Least having dual core now changes part of the compromise.

That's true, and if you think about it, how often do you use a CD/DVD on a day to day basis anyways? In my case not much, and I'd venture that most other professionals don't either. So I guess my only gripe would be the lack of a DVI port on the ultrabase. Man, if I didn't already just buy a laptop, this would have been a serious contender...

Read closer ;) In the battery section I included a table estimating it. You can make a pretty decent estimate by using the power draw during one test and knowing the capacity of the other batteries.

Does the extended battery (the one that plugs in underneath the laptop) work with the 8 cell battery? You're looking at 12 hours of runtime then right?

Yes the extended can be combined with either of the 4-cells or 8-cell, but not the Ultrabay Slim battery that goes on the Ultrabase. Obviously you can't use the Ultrabase and extended battery at the same time ;)

I must be blind. I don't see a table where you estimated the power draw using the other batteries. It's also not easy to find the power ratings of the other batteries from the Lenovo order page. Also, does the X60s come with a "Power Source Optimized" mode, and if so, how does this compare to "Portable/Laptop"?

It looks as though I left out the section on Battery Maximizer, DOH. I'll give you the heads up on that later, heading out the door!

Doh, here. I'm sorry, I just kept going back to the battery performance page. That review is really complete and great.

So that 4-cell extended battery makes the laptop a total of 1.3" thick, or adds an EXTRA 1.3"? The enhanced 4-cell seems like a decent compromise if you're really worried about bulk and weight.

The extended battery ADDS 1.3", it is 1.3" by itself. Add that to the thickness of the laptop as is.

If I were to get this laptop, I would order the slim 4-cell and the 8-cell. The slim 4-cell I would use for general stuff and periods when I knew I wouldn't wander far from a plug. The 8-cell I would have for all day computing. I'd love to handle an X60s with the slim 4-cell, that thing would be so light. I also want to see one of the models with the LED backlit screen, making it even lighter and thinner.
