I just got a thinkpad x20 on ebay but it didnt come with a cd or floppy drive. Is it possible to boot from a cd-rom thats in a bytecc usb enclosure?

I don't think so(I have a x20 with the bottom part). I would suggest removing the hard drive and installing it in your desktop and load the OS on it. That is what I did for two other laptops that I have with no cdrom...

should be able to, I had a T20 and it could boot from USB. Now I have an X31 and I have booted from usb

In BIOS there is an option to boot from external/USB drive. Just set that as the primary boot device and off you go...

Other option is to remove the drive from the laptop put it in another laptop and in the case of XP run the install and on first restart shutdown and put the drive back in your X20 to finish.

Richie,

I have a T20 and I would like to boot it from a USB device. However, when I go into BIOS setup, I don't see the option of booting from a USB device. There is a removable device but it points only to a floppy drive.

I believe my T20 has the latest BIOS: ver 1.22 IYET61WW which I downloaded and flashed on my T20 yesterday.

How did you get your T20 to see a USB device at boot?
