Does your IBM Thinkpad harddrive click... occasionally? Not like a read/write error I don't think, it's just an occasional one time click. :(

Yes, IBM Travelstar drives do that, and it is supposed to be normal.

You can take the drive out and gently shake it a bit and it seems like something is loose inside, but I am told that is normal.

is your Thinkpad still under warranty? Give IBM a call, if it is. it's a HD problem, not your notebook.

my Thinkpad 600E's HD is running fine. I had a Compaq laptop that did that. I got it replaced by Compaq.

No, it doesn't. I'm simply saying that you can clearly hear something is loose if you shake any Travelstar drive.

No wonder it's so slow, it's a 300mhz laptop....

No abnormal clicks from the 30 GB 5400 RPM Travelstar in my ThinkPad. It is a loud drive though. The drive clicks all the time during read/write but I've never had an isolated one-time click. The Travelstar is almost as loud as my ancient Quantum Maveric 540a (the 512 Meg drive from my old 80486 DX/2).
