I need a dvi connection. That is the first point. This is necessary because I'll be using it with either a westinghouse 37" 1080p monitor or the dell 2407, not sure which yet. The IBM needs the advanced dock for dvi, which is an ungodly $159. It will be used for light gaming (Counter Strike Source only) and a lot of school work. Mainly school work, which would include just word processing, but I also like to do a lot of photoshop and that sort of work.

With the dock I configured a great Lenova for only $ 1,597.00.

Damn, that's a nice price on the T60p! When I was looking at them back in January, they were $2500 which was around the same price as the MacBookPro. I went with the MBP due mainly to OSX, but if the T60p had been $1000 cheaper, I'd have grabbed that sucker and installed Ubuntu on it in a heartbeat and screwed the MBP. Asus...meh, why bother when the Thinkpad is so cheap.

I'd upgrade the HD and memory. Why stick with 1.5 when you can have 2? And I'd go through 80GB of HD space in an instant. The 100GB in my MBP is nearing it's capacity, so I'm eying a nice 160GB for Christmas.

The 1.5GB is a free upgrade offer right now I believe.

If you don't use your optical much, you can buy the ThinkPad Ultrabay SATA HDD Adapter and mount an extra 2.5" hard drive in your Ultrabay. I have a 120GB in there now, going to stick the Toshiba 200GB 4200rpm in there soon. Plus the 100GB main drive, I have plenty of storage :D (400GB Seagate 3.5" eSATA on the external FTW!)

Why do you need a T60p with a workstation graphics card when all you're doing is playing games, word processing, and photoshop-ing? Unless you're using 3d modeling stuff like Solidworks, I don't see the point. Wouldn't it be better to save the few hundred dollars and go with the T60 instead?

The V5250, while it is a workstation card, is much better for gaming than the X1400. MUCH

How do you like your N100?

Well he did say "light gaming" and the X1400 is more than capable of running cs source. My N100 is pretty good... hate the integrated graphics though... but I guess I knew that when I bought it. Lenovo's got great keyboards... both for the thinkpads and the 3000 series.... thats the best thing in my opinion.

For the original post though, get the thinkpad: great price and great laptop.
