my local bestbuy has a thinkpad t60 on clearance ... 1 left (a customer special ordered it and decided he did not want it)

Intel Core 2 Duo T5500
15.4 Widescreen
1gig DDR2 Memory
120gig HD
DVD/CD-RW
ATI Radeon X1400
Windows Vista Business

~ 899.99

i have always loved the quality of think pads, but im not sure if my money would be better spent on a new model laptop ?

I think it is a pretty good deal for that config at a retail store.

If you are uncomfortable buying used {where that price is a little high} then you could feel good about picking that one up and having the security of a return policy or extended warranty.

No bluetooth? No dvd burner? Don't know if those are important to you but would probably be included if you decided go the newer model route.

I got a T60 this summer - and have used it steadily on the road (including Europe) for about two months now, and it has been outstanding. I got the smaller 14.1 screen (smaller for travel) and it came with Vista Home Premium. It has Bluetooth (something I find totally useless) and a good DVD burner in the Ultrabay. I got a second 160 GB HDD in the Ultrabay adapter and it is very useful to me for digital imagery archiving.

I really like the trackpoint stick and the easy way to disable the touchpad. It's wireless capability is excellent witha convenient front edge on/off switch.

A customer change of heart does not make it necessarily used. The price is certainly right.
