I'm looking at some T42's and I'm not sure what the difference exactly is between all these different wireless cards. Which one has the longest range and stays stable for the longest time?

Integrated Wireless
(Std) Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG

Integrated Wireless
(Std) IBM 11b/g Wi-Fi wireless

Integrated Wireless
(Std) IBM 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless and Bluetooth

I know the first one is part of the Centrino package(at least I think it is) and the third card has 802.11a and bluetooth capabilities while the other two don't, but how does each card perform.

the bluetooth is NOT part of the card, but housed on the modem card. It will not be an option on certian T models.

the A standard never caught on, so I wouldn't waste the money on something that you won't get to use. The intel and IBM cards will probably be the same card, just IBM has to pay Intel for the name.

I was able to buy a b/g 2200 card off ebay for $35 and install myself.

Personaly I woudl go with either of the IBM cards
The Intel cards are notoriously bad.
also the bluetooth is not built in to the wireless card it's in connection with the modem as communications daughter card.

hmm so IBM cards
Does anyone know how Atheros AR5001X+ that compares to these cards? This was listed as one of the specs in the compare sheet I was looking at for one of the models.

i'm not sure what that is, but it sounds like a super G card.

The a/b/g card is a super G card, my WAP isn't super G so I only get 54mbs, but the drivers show it can go up to 108

Thanks it looks like I'm going to try to make an IBM laptop with that Atheros chip. I wonder what the range is on this thing.
