I recently got a T41 (about 3-4 months ago)
I carry around my laptop inside a sleve with my books in my book bag.
I have not had any serious problems yet but have gotton spots on my LCD which appear to have come from the keyboard and pointing stick.

I also seems to have something that look more seriour but not quite like a crack. Sort of like a scratch, smudge or something.

What is the best way to get rid of these things.
Thanks.

Most likely is it just oil and dust from the keyboard. It will come off with cleaning. I believe it is due to putting too much stuff in the laptop bag which puts just enough pressure on the laptop to bring the keyboard briefly in contact with the screen. At best a soft lint free cloth will take it off with some light rubbing. At worst, use some LCD cleaner which you could probably find at CompUSA or places like that.

This is a problem which I have encountered over the years. It can get expensive if precautions are not taken. My Thinkpad screen was permanently marked. I now use the ShaggyMac Laptop Screen Protector.

As far as cleaning the laptop lcd screens, most people do not realize how delicate these are. They are made from special coated plastics and proper care is neccessary. Windex and glass cleaners are known to permanently "yellow" the screen. They are too harsh for a laptop. Out of all the products used in our long term testing, we found the iKlear .Apple Polishseries to yield outstanding results.

More information on laptop care is available here: http://www.shaggymac.com/plugged.html

bump.. just wanted to second the recommendation for shaggymac's products (screen protector and lcd cleaner). Mine arrived today, and I'm very impressed with their quality. Additionally, their customer service is impressive; they forgot to include a bonus lcd wipe that was advertised with the package and I emailed them after business hours-- and received a response within 2 hours.

I use some pads for cleaning camera lenses along with a few drops of methanol, which evaporates very fast and cleans both my lenses and Planar 17 inch LCD pretty well.

I am not a chemist, but I would stay away from cleaners that end in "ol" : alchohol, methanol, ethanol...
