I just ordered my new Thinkpad T400. I'm quite excited to say the least.

I was ready to order at 12:00AM on August 5th but the price for the T400 was $0. Sounds cool, right? Not cool at all considering it wouldn't let you checkout. I had to settle for ordering 8 hours later.

So here are my specs:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz 6MB Cache (T9600)
LCD: 14" LED backlight with integrated camera
OS:: Vista Basic (going to downgrade to XP myself)
Memory: 2GB DDR3 PC8500 (2 DIMM)
Hard Drive: 100GB 7200RPM (attaching my 400GB Hitachi drive in an external enclosure)
Graphics: Integrated... I don't game. (anymore)
Optical: 8X DVD-RW
Battery: 6 Cell

Anyone else pick up the 2.8GHz Penryn that they aren't offering anymore?

Nice, 2.8Ghz @ 1066 FSB and DDR3.

Probably cost you past $2000 didn't it? Maybe $2400 w/ tax and everything?

I just priced the T400 and the T500. Pricey compared to other manufacturer and models of similar features. I'm guessing the quality, relaibility, and durability makes up for the extra cost? Budget minded folks will buy other I'm thinking.

I got everything for $1389 shipped with tax plus a free printer.

I went with the T400 for the durability, LED backlight, and DDR3. You can't beat the durability of a Thinkpad... and obviously I got a great deal.

yep. you can get an entry-level laptop with decent specs for *easily* under $600. often enough under $500 during a sale.

What screen resolution does it have? The Thinkpads with UXGA resolutions are nice.

Nice T400 for sure. I would have totally gotten a T400, but since I must leave for Baltimore at the end of the month I didn't want to rush anything and got a T61 instead.

The T61 gets about 4.5-5 hours of battery life (with discrete graphics) after I undervolted the CPU, so my motive for getting the T400 isn't as big as it used to be.

Not sure if Lenovo will ship earlier for the T400, but they shipped about a week before the estimated "ship date" for my T61. My friend got his X61 about 1.5 weeks before "ship date." I think the ship date is just to account for all possible part shortages so they won't have any delays (that way they are always early in shipping, never late)

Wheaton College in Massachusetts.

And I guess I lucked out with the price... I used CPP and got the T9600 before they discontinued it on the site.
