ThinkPad Laptop - High pitch buzzing when not plugged in

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X61s. When I don't have the AC cord plugged in and I'm just running off of battery power, I hear this high pitch pulsating buzz (kind of like morse code). But when I have the AC cord plugged in, I don't hear the noise at all.

Any idea what my problem could be?

More information is needed. Is it an electrical buzz (ie, emanating out of the built-in speakers) or is it a mechanical buzz seemingly coming from either the CPU fan or the HDD?

Does it do this only when the unit is hot (ie, needs to warm up first)?

If the power cord is cycled by removing & re-inserting, does the buzz track the physical action?

One possibility for diagnosis purposes is to reset your power settings via the control panel. Start off with setting it to minimum power use (ie, extended battery life which minimizes the CPU fan utilization from heating). If it is an electrical problem, what happens if you mute the speakers/sound?
