Has anybody heard of or had trouble with hard drives crashing in a Thinkpad I-Series laptop? I myself have dealt with 2 of these laptops having the drives go bad and know of at least 4 others that have had the same problem. These laptops are 2-3 years old and should not be having this problem so consistently across the board. I believe IBM has some serious design flaws with these laptops but they are not coming clean about it.

In general I really like IBM notebooks. I have an old thinkpad 560 I got used and never had a problem with it. That said, I recommended that my brother get a thinkpad when he went to college. He got an I4300 or something like that as a refurb special at buy.com a year or so ago. As soon as he started it up it had a high pitch squeal so I went on some messageboard at IBM to see if I could troubleshoot it. It was a known defect in the Mobo with something to do with USB, so I returned it to buy.com. In any case, while I was reading the IBM message board, I saw that there were a lot of complaints about hard drives going out in this series. The hdd work ok in the one he had, but he only had it about 7 days.
