Thinkpad Doesn't recognize Hard drive

I am trying to upgrade a IBM Think Pad 760EL, I got a 4.86Gb Ibm tavelstar DBCA-204860. When, I talked to IBM support they siad that that bios could support up to 5.0 gig and I should get an IBM Drive. When I boot it up, it doesn't recognize the hard drive and I can't access it in DOS. I upgraded the bios but that didn't fix the problem.
Any Ideas?
