Thinkpad 1400i (old) upgrade

I just bought a thinkpad 1400i (2611-412) with a 10 gig hard drive 366 celeron and 128mb RAM off ebay (i dont need anything with lots of power) My question is, can i upgrade the hard drive to something bigger and higher RPM like a 30 gig fujitsu 2.5 inch? i know very little about laptops so excuse me if this is something everyone knows but me. Also how fast of a CPU upgrade is possible in this laptop? And is it possible to upgrade to a CDRW drive fairly easily?
 
So, there will be no incompatibility issues if it tries to hold say a 30 Gigabyte Hard Drive? Is there a standard type of connector for laptop hard drives? Because I didn't want to buy a hard drive and find out that there is a different type of connector for each type hard drive or that my laptop would not support a certain hard drive.

Without any definite knowledge of IBM Thinkpad upgrades, I can tell you that I recently upgraded an old Toshiba from 1.4 Gb to 20 Gb.
Your Thinkpad is obviously of a newer make (the Tosh has a 133 Mhz Pentium MMX), so you should have even less trouble than I had.

Yes, there is a standard type of connector. Suggest you just take the old drive out, have a look at it and see if you can spot any monkey business. Basically, it's just a mini-IDE.

I found it easier to upgrade on a laptop than on a deskptop - no cabels 🙂
