Thinking T40... anyone used a PowerBook 12" or 15"?

I'm looking seriously into an IBM T40 from a Dell Inspiron, but I"m starting to look into PowerBooks and I"m wondering what people's takes are on them? Other than "they suck" and "apple blows", I'm sure someone else has looked at them and has a valid opinion. I'm just wondering how they compete for day-to-day use.

Thanks.

Although I have little experience with actually using them myself, I do have a lot of experience with OSX, and my boss has an original 15" powerbook he uses religiously and I've used a few times. The new ones have a lot of improvements, and they are awesome. It is hard to find a laptop as small and light as a powerbook without spending a fortune if you are looking for a pc. Definitely try one out, if you can.

I'm in the same position you are, actually. Thinking about taking a drive to Ann Arbor in a week or so to look at a local showcase there and get some hands on with their powerbooks and their T40. I'll let you know what I think. 😉

If you do decide to look into getting a powerbook, I would suggest waiting until September 24 or so, because that it when Apple Paris Conference will take place. It is expected that they may release new powerbooks and possible ibooks then.

Perfect, I'll probably wait a little while, but I'd like to get it before school starts, maybe beginning of September. I don't think I want a 15" powerbook, I have a 15" Dell right now and it's so damn big. I think I'll go take a look at the Apple store down here and see how they are. The 12" Powerbooks look great, as do the 14" iBooks. The T40 will always be in the background, I just don't know if I can overcome the Windows to Mac switch. I know it's not that bad, but I don't know how I'll feel about it a year down the road, if I miss my Windows machine too much.

Thanks for the help guys.

when i started looking for a laptop, some powerbook lovers tried to talk me into those - but the school i was trying to get into does not support them. so i "settled" for a t40. nah, it really looked like the best choice for me - light, sturdy, reliable....and yes, the stockholder discount made it a little better (still pricey, but at least i didn't pay full price)
