Thinking of upgrading...

Currently I have a very hot running 140w Amd Ph II x4 965. I was looking at getting a X6 or maybe the 970 be (mainly for the lower power consumption) to replace it. My birthdays around the corner and was thinking of getting myself an new toy to play with.

The chips I am leaning towards are 1075t, 1090t or 970be....

What do you guys think? Any of these cpus worthy of the minor upgrade?

Get yourself a new cooler, that's not a hot chip and everything you listed is not going to do you much better anyway. Do you even overclock?

If you want more cores, go for it.

If you aren't overclocking, have you tried undervolting and using Cool and Quiet? I don't think there will be much of a difference among any of the chips you listed once they're tweaked. If you do want more cores or a cooler chip at higher overclocks, the 1075T looks like a good buy at $150-175.

I wouldnt bother. You already have a 965. Maybe get an ssd or wait for a new video card. The new processors are coming soon.

I do over clock, usually oc to 3.8-3.9, but I have backed it down to 3.6 atm with stock volts for it to run cooler, I guess I'm more leaning towards going for the x6 for a new toy..and also the girlfriend was complaining about here computer being too slow (has an amd 5400 x2 )so I'd thought I go for a new cpu and shuffle my cpus around on my three computers and give here a boost in the process.

A lot of people recommending ssd drives, I haven't really looked into those, those basically used for os drives? or do people just put there games on them for a boost? They seem kind of high in price. SSD's really worth it? Is there a real noticeable performance increase?

If it is for trickle down, then go for it!

Well, what does a faster CPU give you? If someone swapped out your CPU with a faster one without your knowledge and you sat down to use it, will you notice a difference?

The thing is that with an SSD you WILL notice a difference. Things just happen a bit "snappier" on your system (well, everything that runs from the SSD). It will only cut a little bit off the boot time, but Windows is ready to go the moment your desktop appears instead of the HDD rattling away and you waiting at an hourglass.

As for what to run off it, Windows 7, of course. Beyond Windows, it really has to do with your budget. The more SSD you can easily afford, the more stuff you will put on there.

I replaced a 940BE @ 3.8 with the 1090T @ 4.2

The 1090T @ 4.2 is cooler and uses less volts, but there is really no noticeable difference between the two unless you are encoding or making use of all 6 cores.

Worth it? For me, DDR3 support is what made my mind, but your chip is already DDR3, so its really up to you (btw its fun to oc thubans, less volts higher clocks and more cores)

ON topic of SSD, great noticeable upgrade if your coming from a single HD however, my rig with SSD doesn't feel a whole lot faster then my girlfriends 720BE rig (in signature, my machine but she uses it) running 2x640GB blacks in raid0.
