Thinking of upgrading

I am thinking of upgradring my Pentium IV 2.4 GHz, 1.5 GB DDR, GeForce 6600GT 128MB to something along these lines:

- Asus P5B-E Plus (P965)
- Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13 GHz, 2 MB cache)
- 2 x 1 GB Kingston DDR2-667 (CL5)
- Asus X1950 Pro (256 MB)

My thoughts are that I will only be doing light gaming (right now mostly World of Warcraft) so I don't need a powerhouse. Most components can be upgraded later (faster CPU, maybe quad-core, faster memory, faster GPU, etc).

I don't have any real need to upgrade right now but I do have a friend who is looking for mobo and CPU so I can offload my old stuff on him.

I could go down to an E6300 which would save me about 100 ?. I don't know however how that would compare CPU-wise to my current setup. I guess I could make with just 1 GB memory and even a slower graphics card to save even more.

What are your thoughts on this?

Another option I've pondered is the same mobo, E6600, 2x1 GB Corsair DDR2-800 and X1950 XT but that would increase the price by about 300 ?.

(I will be re-using my current comonents, NEC DVD-writer, 2xHitachi 250 GB SATA drives, might keep the Audigy 2, etc).

that will be a nice pc...

save money by getting slower cpu... don't get less memory or less video...

overclock the cr@p out of it...

An E6300 would be a much better choice, as said, possibly the E4300 too - not much difference between them in price at the moment; probably worth waiting for the price cuts in april.
