thinking of upgrading video card

i mainly play cs:source and my 9800pro doesn't make the game much fun. any ETA on price drop of 6800gt or x800pro around $200-$300 range?

Probably January, though "Black Friday" (day after Thanksgiving) might see stores offering extremely limited quantities at insane prices as loss leaders to get you to visit the store.

I'm thinking of getting the BFG 6800OC for $250. Would it upgrade my 9800NP quite a bit?

The 6800GT can be had for ~$325 (when found in stock), is the $75 really worth it?

i was thinking about the $250 6800 oc also.. but i'd rather wait til price drops on the gt or x800pro cause those cards can handle the high quality games much better now and later

But Half-Life 2 comes out November 16th. Don't think the price is going to fall that quick 😉
Half Life was optimized for ATI cards, so wait and check the reviews to see how the 9800NP plays with the actual game (as opposed to CS:Source, stress tests, etc.).

i've ordered hl2 from steam.. (bronze)... im playing source right now. =T... since hl2 is coming out around thanksgiving.. hopefully prices drop on video cards so more people could play hl2...

the cs:source stress test is nothing... i've got 87 fps results on my 9800pro but while load of action on the game.. it drops to 30-40 fps

the 6800 is weak, if you're thinking of that go with a 6600GT next month when the AGP models come out at around $200.

get an EVGA 6800LE, not a 6800 gt.

My 9800pro with an o/c xp system plays CS:S with 16x AF and 4x AA with above 60 fps at 1024x768 np. I don't see how your system doesn't out proform that.

unless you are on large resolutions.

^^^ Could be your CPU and ram holding it up, not the 9800pro... What cpu and ram you got??

a64 3000 and msi k8t neo (frys combo/on a budget)
generic patriot ram.. pc3200 512x2

edit: i'm currently running 4.10 catalyst driver..
edit #2: does anybody have a x800pro.. noticeable improvement from 9800pro > x800pro ?
