Thinking of upgrading to the Samsung HL67A750

I think it may be time to give up my coveted CRT-RP sets. From what I can find, it appears the new Samsung LED DLP sets with the dark chip 4 has superior black levels. And black levels/shadow detail is why I have held on to my calibrated CRT-RP sets for so long. We all have our peeves, and that's mine. I was considering the Sony SXRD sets, but they were discontinued and the largest are just too hard to find.

Anyone know of any professional reviews or comparisons to the SXRDs?



BTW, I have the Sharp LC-46D42U in my bedrooms and have to say, for the cheapest 46" LCD I could find (got a few on BF for 999), these sets look great when calibrated. (They even had near perfect color when simply adjusted out of the box) I was very pleasantly surprised by them. Much better color and black levels than I expected. I actually enjoy watching The Fifth Element on these (my personal test DVD for color and black levels).

Yes, I know they aren't 1080p... but who needs that in the bedrooms where the most watched prgramming will be the news?
 
I'll have to talk to you about calibrating an LCD because my sister just got the 52" Samsung and I saw a lot of issues with the picture.
 
As far as RPTV's go, the 67A750 is as good as it gets at the moment. The only thing coming out in the near future to compete will be the Mitsubishi Laser TV's, but it sounds to me like they plan on pricing themselves completely out of the market.

The AVSforum thread is really the only major source of reviews on the 67A750 I can think of off hand though.
 
I dunno, when my local guy came to touch up my CRTs he worked on the LCDs too. Made them look even better than I had them. There aren't any non-consumer adjustable settings on LCDs? Did he scam me?

You can buy calibration DVDs from amazon.com, or just copy people's settings at AVS. I'm cheap, so I just copy settings at AVS for my LCD.
