Thinking of Upgrading CPU on a Laptop. This possible?

I have an Asus VX2S laptop (the Lamborghini one). It currently has an intel T7500 (Merom) 2.2GHz CPU, and I was thinking of upgrading it to a T7800 2.6GHz CPU, and was wondering if this is possible with laptops? I have observed the following:

* I am able to to gain physical access to the CPU and remove it
* The CPU I am upgrading to is from the exact same range as the one I have now (T7XX series , Merom).

I'm thinking because the CPU is in the same range I should be OK, but before I bite the bullet, is there anything in need to watch out for? Any major increase in power consumption and heat, or do these remain roughly the same?

Cheers!

I don't think there are any potential problems. They have same specs except the multiplier. They have the same TDP, so I wouldn't expect any significant increase in heat.

Honestly, you wont get much of a benefit from upgrading. there is an extremely small real world difference between the two. its like upgrading from a radeon 4850 to a radeon 4850 OC model. its not going to bring you the performance you are hoping out of it.

I think its technically possible for you to upgrade the CPU, but its not really a cost effective upgrade. Unless you're able to get the new CPU for dirt cheap, I'd save the money for a replacement PC down the line.

in your case, definately not worth it...

If you had this laptop and upgraded to this CPU, then it is justified (esp if you can get the CPU for ~$45, and sell the 2650e for ~$20)
