Well, there is ANOTHER way to handle this too, so that reducing weapon deadliness isn't the only way...increase map size, decrease flag packing, basically, embrace the Fushe Pass style map, and also, have more tree cover like BC2 had- ever notice how BF3 seems to have a lot less trees than some BC2 maps?

yes much larger maps with more spread flags would be great to add to the mix.

parts of caspian have that kind of cover, but I think the size of objects with FB and wanting to keep sys req's down is part of that.

I mean, I run 6970 6950 xfire and I cant pull over 100fps avg on most maps and I use most of my 8b of ram and tax my 2500k @ 1080p and most details up

Also, abolish 3D spotting. Now we can argue about how it's a great teamwork communication tool, then I'll say "but it's also an aiming aid that shows you where to aim", but let's toss all that out the window. The biggest problem with 3D spotting in BF3 is, arguments of whether it's a noob tool aside, it causes people to be distracted from playing objectives, and to spend their time chasing and firing at spots they couldn't otherwise have seen due to distance or whatever, and if they hadn't seen those spots they would have went after the nearest flag to cap it.
yes leave it on the minimap where it belongs, if it was bf2143 and it was a helmet hud I could see an agument to make it valid

After all, when I play hardcore mode, even though weapons are even deadlier in hardcore, the game's kill pace seems slower. Why would that be, if it isn't because people can't Q spam to spot people they can't otherwise see due to distance?

well yeah, and you know you dead when shot twice, so people run around less period. its a bit of both

I didn't play enough 2142 to know but I believe 3D spotting in 2142 was squad only...that's another way to do it. 32 people spotting 3D for each other is chaos for PTFO.

BF3 battles wouldn't be the same if everyone wasn't on the same page, and in reality all it takes is a radio and binoculars. I think bringing people closer together faster definitely gives the game a more squad based feel.

When you guys say more spread out flags, I think of the BC2 map Heavy Metal. I always ended up camped on the side of a mountain sniping on that monstrosity of a map because I would get sick of all the running or driving to get from flag to flag. I must be one of the ADHD players who actually enjoys not having to cross heaven and earth to find someone to shoot at. I play objectives and like teamwork but I also love killing people and despise lulls in the action.

Heavy Metal is only a good map when it's compared to other BC2 maps. Now...imagine that map, twice as wide as it is, for 64 players, and having at least 3 more flags. Then a flag would always be within reach, but you'd have the option, if desired, to attempt to sneak through somewhere and cap a backflag. I know that's still not an optimum map design, a map needs to be well designed from scratch, but that's just my attempt to hotfix it in imaginationland, so to speak.

There are ways of doing this so that the game is deliberately paced, neither a meatgrind, not a snoozefest. BF3 is all meatgrind. I realize it might be a snoozefest for 24 player console servers on maps like Kharg but...what can I say about that? Proper map size for 128 players is the proper evolution. The ability to choose tactics and strategies on a diverse map, some strategies which may lead you into the lion's mouth of combat and others which involve skulking around the edges of the map.

When you put it that way, it doesnt sound so bad. ;)

I hated Heavy Metal because one team would nearly always get spawn trapped. It was boring even if you were on the baseraping team. If it were wider with more capture points it would have helped, but then it would have been a lot like Harvest. (I think that was the map name) I guess they are trying to keep the maps diverse and not all formed out of the same mold.

alpha

a few tweaks in the upcoming patch you will like

-get up from prone faster
-Users can create custom squads

sadly though they have buffed about every anti vehicle weapon, while also bugging countermeasures at the same time

should be interesting to see how it rebalances

I'm interested in the prone, of course. BTW apparently Zh1nt0 ninja editing that custom squads thing out of his list...that's what people over at Mordor are saying anyway.

I'm VERY interested in the reduced lock time for stingers. That's the biggest reason why you can't use them successfully. They still won't be deathtouch weapons but I have a feeling they will now force choppers to reassess their ability to loiter without fear.

Heavy Metal is actually almost big enough that the distance to the uncap acts as a balancing force against base attacks BUT: We still had allspawning in BC2, that makes repulsing a squad from your base too hard. And also, the spawn points were set up so that you couldn't reach a friendly vehicle without being mown down even if the attackers hadn't stolen it. That's not how it's supposed to be done, and it's quite obvious why BC2 makes people hate uncap attacks.

the problem is they upped damage too.

wtf. cant they ever smaller incriment something, they nerfed almost everything about air power, but yet now flares ditch guided stuff too?

the ECM guided vs heatsinkers thing was FINE, now choppers can get ground raped by everything? esp since ECM doesnt break locks anymore
