I currently run a slackware 7.1 setup, but I'm really new and I find it a bit of a pain in the ass to do things. Plus, slack's future doesn't look bright.

One of the things about Debian that looks appealing is its packaging. I'm still a fan of windows-like install wizards, as It'll be a cold day in hell before I read source, so I have no need for it.

Does anyone know where I can find out more info about it? I've already perused through debian.org, but i'd like more 3rd party opinions.

What about other options (besides redhat/mandrake)?

[edit]Oh yeah, this system is mostly for serving purposes. I may use Exceed and occasionally hook up a monitor, but 90% of the time its going to be console.[/edit]

I personally like Debian a lot for servers as long as you're running stable. I'm unwilling to run Wood (testing) until it is stable as it recieves no security updates. I do run it though and it is quite nice.

The update and upgrade functions in apt are quite addictive though.

yea tell me how you did it!

seriously I've been playing with it at home on a few pare gigs. The first part of the install goes fine till I reboot. Then my cable modem doesn't work anymore and last night I could't get it to recognize any cd's it said the kernel didn't recognize the file system!!! not to mention I have a geforce2MX card and it doesn't play nice w/ X 3.3.6. I relly liked the install though..
also http://www.debianplanet.org is where I have found some answers, but not all
