Thinking of something...

ok well I was thinking of getting a 1.5/384 dsl connection from covad with static ip address and hosting a small half-life server or raven shield or something...not sure which game...however will 384 upload be enough? I was hopeing I can get a 8-10 person server out of it but if I can't get that with only a 384 upload rate then I might as well save some bucks and get a slower dsl connection and forget about a server...btw the cable around here really sucks and a lot of people around me use it so going with a cable modem is not an option...

Its hard to say. I know a standard half life server uses about 2-3K/sec for each player. This number can be a bit higher with voice comm and custom sprays enabled. 394=~48K/sec, so THEORETICALLY you shouldnt have a problem running it.

halflife uses about 100-192 Kbs per player ideally.

So you could only host a couple of people on your server without some lag. Never hurts to try though!
