Not a very good idea. You should buy at least a 9600 GT to really see some difference, otherwise the GS will not give you much of a performance boost, maybe none at all.

You won't even see a noticeable difference with a 9600gt. Maybe with AA.

Look around a little more. If you're willing to add a bit more cash to what your friend will pay for your card, you can get an 8800GT for ~$185 or an 8800GTS (G92) for $210 after MIR (see hot deals forum for details). These cards would certainly provide higher performance than your 3850.

He is going to make money off by doing it. Why not? They should perform about same. Slight edge to 8800gs.

I believe 8800gs is right there in between 3850 and 3870, while 9600 = 3870..

10-15% increase in performance + money back = good deal.

9600gt is right between the 3850 and 3870 too. Maybe with AA 9600gt does good but raw frame rates 3870 wins 9 out of 10 times if not all 10. With AA 9600gt wins 6 out 10 times?
