...sporty and getting a stick instead. i have 18k miles on it. do you think that it would be possible to work out a deal with a dealer where i could get trade it for another 2000 gt with similar (or higher) mileage and transplant my mods?

since i plan on turboing the car, i would have to upgrade the tranny ($2000) to make it almost as quick/efficient as a stick. seems like a waste of $$$.

not to mention that STOCK, a stick dynoes ~30hp higher (180whp) than an auto(150whp). so with all my mods so far, i'm barely as fast as a stick. by transplanting the mods to the stick, i'd be a lot faster. probably 14.5s in the 1320 fast.

They probably wouldn't let you transplant the mods. You'd have to sell the car to them stock, and take a stock car from them, or else you would lose the mods. Now, if you have the flow, you could buy the car with the stick, hanging onto the auto, change the mods overnight, and take the car to the dealer to sell it. Problem is, they couldn't give you an estimate on trade-in value until the see it how you're going to sell it to them, and when you trade it in you may end up getting less than you expected.

Best bet, put all the stock parts back on, and then trade it in.

THAT i CAN do.

my biggest concern though is as to whether or not they would be down to do a swap. an automatic is "valued" higher than a stick, especially if the stick has more miles on it. what do you think?

I would tell them that you want to trade it in without the mods. My friend traded in his Si and they let him take it home over the weekend and take the mods off and bring it back. Might be worth a shot.

You get raped on trade-in at dealers. If you find one that's nice enough, you might break even, but look at probably having to shell out $1000 more on the "new" car. Could be more, could be less, just depends on the dealer, the conditions of the car, what the dealer feels they need more, what they feel they can sell better, etc etc etc.

i dropped by the dealer. at first he said that it would cost $2500, but we got that number down to $500. :D (mostly for paperwork)

and he KNOWS that if he even tries to jack that figure up, i'm outtie.

now to learn how to drive stick...
