Thinking of returning my GTX 1070 and go back to my old GTX 770 4GB

Mainly because I don't see that big of fps difference in BF1 multiplayer.

Single player sure.

Do you think I should ?

sell it for a profit, sell the 770. get a 480 or 1060. Hold on to the funds for later.

If he's not seeing a big difference in fps going from 770 > 1070 then there's no point in spending money on a 480/1060. Might as well live with the 770 and save more funds for a complete rebuild later. Though I can't see how there isn't a LARGE difference in fps between a 770 and a 1070 even with the 2500k at stock unless the OP is just playing on low settings with both cards.Granted at 1080p he is bottlenecking the 1070. Finally found a cpu bottleneck point (in BF1) on my 1070 w/ a 4670k at 4.7 tonight. Slightly at 2.1 core and 9.5 ram.

770 value is going and its not going to give that nice solid performance in other games. I see lots of people buying the 480/470 for under $200 with deals so seems a good place to sit till something worth it comes along.

I completely agree under normal conditions. The issue is the OP specifically states that he's not seeing the fps increase going from a 770 to a 1070 as meaningful. With that being the case spending any money does not seem to be worth it for the OP. Going from a 770 to a 1060 is going to be less of an increase than going from a 770 to a 1070. If he's not seeing the value of moving on from the 770 then anything else isn't going to make a difference to the OP, 1060 or 1070.

Frankly, I think his 2500k is probably stock which is bottlenecking anything. Overclock it to around 4.5 hopefully and see where the 1070 sits at that point and then make a decision.

Yes and yes it is overclocked.

Are you gaming at 1080p? The performance difference between the 770 and 1070 is huge, but only really noticeable when not CPU bottlenecked.

Try monitoring Core 0-3 CPU usage while playing multiplayer. It may be time to get a 6700k. But if you are happy with the performance go back to the 770.

I do hope you get to play BF1 in 4k some day! :D

Yes 1920x1080

Ok.

Don't worry I will once I upgrade what are you playing on to run BF1 in 4k ?

Wow I didn't think a GTX 1070 could handle BF1 in 4k guess I was wrong. What kind of fps do you get ?

I'm still in SP (have to use satellite internet for the next few months; RIP). I lowered shadows to high along with no AA and no HBAO and I get a solid 60fps.

GameGPU did an OK DX11/DX12 performance analysis. I expect FAR worse CPU performance in multiplayer as is the case with every BF 64 player server.

I don't bother with maxed out settings like the benchmark above. Here is 1080p DX11 for reference:

It looks like you need an overclocked i7 (4c/4t) to get optimal frame rate:

The game seems to utilize 8 threads, but GameGPU could be wrong.

Unsure if those are the actual clockspeeds...

I need to overclock my 1070 to 2.05 GHz core and 9.4 GHz memory to maintain 60fps minimum in every title I play at 4k using the settings I use. At stock clocks (especially the 8ghz memory) I get around 10fps lower for my minimum fps.

TLDR: An overclocked 1070 is an excellent 4k card at high settings!

No, unless BF1 is the only game you are going to play. Overall the 1070 should give you far better performance, and should still be a solid card you can carry over to a new system at some point with a better cpu.

Someone asked and the guy from GamersNexus said that he doesn't list the clocks they run at, just their "stock" clocks. Since they auto boost they'll run higher.

The gtx1070 has more then double the performance of a gtx770 but if you cant notice the difference thats your problem...dont blame the gpu...

seems so. All the outlets should show details of clocks in their benches imo. Put things in perspective. Especially because they auto boost.

If the OP is planning to go 4K all the more reason to ditch the 1070 till then. being able to manage it in battlefield 1 barely means in other games it will crap out. save your money and play 1080p with a 1080p card, then 4K with the real 4K cards (hopefully next year).

I would keep the GTX 1070 and sell the GTX 770, add some $$ if needed to buy a i7 2600. Overclock it to 4.5 or so and you'll be all set.

If the 770 can handle the game to something close to 60fps and he has a 60hz monitor, then the 1070 running at 120fps wouldn't make much difference.

Maybe if the OP fire up some performance OSD and tell us what numbers he is getting, we could paint a better picture.

I honestly thought the 1070 would have been a decent low settings 4k card but it proved me wrong. I can run every game at 4k high except for R6 Siege. It is a good indication that it will be a 4k low-medium settings card for the next 2 years.

The big problem with 4k is VRAM usage. 4k textures at 4k use about 6-7 GB of VRAM. 8 GB of VRAM is simply not enough for a card to have decent longevity. In that case, a 1070 will become obsolete the same time as the 1080 in many titles that allow 4k textures.

Is it a good time to move to 4k? Absolutely. You can get a 4k gsync monitor for $350 and be able to play any game at 60fps on a lowly 1070. By the time Titan XP performance hits the $400 mark, 4k120hz will be affordable as well. 4k60 is the new 1080p.

Almost certainly CPU bottlenecked in BF1 multiplayer.

Keep the card because when they release the final, polished DX12 build it will lift that CPU bottleneck quite a bit and you'll see a lot of the benefit of that 1070 then.

What? Where? I've been tracking monitor deals for the past few months and haven't seen a high res g-sync monitor for anywhere remotely close to that price.

Maybe his local craigslist, and its not 4k or gsync

Cheapest I see on on newegg is $470 for a refurb of the $780 version.

Are there even other 4k Gsync monitors besides the Acer ones or the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG27AQ?
