i always prefer to build my own systems...fvck prebuilts...unless you need tech support...then dell is your friend

How much did you pay and what are your current specs?
Therein lies the decision maker. Depends greatly upon the price point to specification ratio (regardless of what the BYO fanboys may say).

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

ok...well its my friend...since i dont hafta field tech support calls from someone i built a computer for...i'll only build systems for my friends who are somewhat competent...total n00bs i send to dell 😀

I bought a Dell refurb. I couldn't have built a system with the same specs myself. The tech support was like a bonus. I'll never buy a new Dell unless it's one of the Small Business server deals. 😉

Specs P4 3.2 1gb ddr2 533 16x dvd dl plus a dvd drive ati pci express all for 679.00

Why do people volintarily buy Dells? It's just asking for trouble. Seriously. Just never buy a Dell and you'll be happy for life. It's in my new book "Dell and AOL: The Leading Cause of Death Among Americans".

Tough call. That technology would cost atleast $500 to $700 in a self built box (more, if one didn't shop around).

If it is experiencing issues, why not look into using the support and repair?

Cause it was cheap and I'm too lazy to build my own these days.

EDIT: Actually, I just have better things to do then build computers.

You obviously have little or no (supposition would be the latter) experience with their business line of products. Not all Dell machines are at the consumer level, and most of the problems consumers experience with Dell builds are not an issue with their business machines.

Difficult to compete with their server and workstation products for the price.

Then why not buy something decent, like an HP?

First, I cannot get a comparable HP for the price of the Dell I just got.

Second, HP's suck. I have lots of personal experience with HP's at work ranging back to Pentium 1 Vectras. Now we get Compaqs but they're one the same and they still suck.

EDIT: It only took me about 10 minutes to remove the software that came preinstalled. Any HP comes with tons more useless crap.
