Thinking of replacing my iPhone 5

Overall I feel disappointed and tired from iOS, I find myself wishing I had chosen something else instead of another iPhone. My wife has a upgrade now available with AT&T and she will have nothing but a iPhone so I have the chance to give her my iPhone and get something else. I really like the Nokia Lumia 920 from everything I have read, I also think the galaxy note 2 is neat.

So my question for you is if its worth it to switch and what options I should look at as far as phones go. I am open to suggestions for other hardware I did not list.

Go into store and play with different phones. That's the only way you can see what you like.

I have an iPhone 4S and another 10 months before I can upgrade. If I was in your shoes, I'd get a Galaxy Note II. Big screen, fast processor (quad core), lots of battery life, and expandable memory. I'm hoping the Note III will be out when I can upgrade (or that Apple comes out with a large phone - I like iOS, but am willing to go ANdroid to get a bigger screen).

I'm not sure how well you're really going to figure out what device is for you just based on 5 minutes in the store. Here's what I'd do.

1) Go buy a Galaxy Note II and Lumia 920 unsubsidized from Best Buy (will need a decent credit card limit).
2) Use both for a week straight, one after the other.
3) Figure out which one you liked best, making sure to download all of the apps you might need. It's also important to turn your iPhone completely off so you don't use it as a crutch.
4) Return both phones to Best Buy (shouldn't have any restocking fees)
5) Go to AT&T and buy the phone you want under contract.

Short of that, whatever anyone tells you is just guesswork since we don't know you. I could say after owning all previous iPhones including the iPhone 5 which I still have, I love my Lumia 920. But internet anecdotes are a poor substitute for actual research on your own.

For what it is worth, my family is a melting pot of cell phones. My parents and wife have iPhone, most of her family and I have android, and her Sister and Brother in law have the 920.

To be honest, I really like all of them. It is to a point where the phones just seem to work. It has taken a bit, but after playing with all of them, I feel like they are all at a point of being polished. I think all the systems will start to get boring from here on out. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I would rather be bored with a working product then spending time trying to figure out with this or that is not working.

Galaxy Note 2.

Of course go to a store and check them all out first, but the Note 2 easily gets my vote.

I plan to go out to the store and look at all they have this week if I have time. Great advice by all!

I haven't played with one yet, but I think the Droid DNA looks like an amazing phone if you are on Verizon.

What don't you like about the iPhone and iOS? Maybe the opposites of those will help guide the suggestions.

Mainly just tired of it. I have had every iPhone since the 3g and the OS itself just seems old anymore. The only Apps I must have are GPS and audible pretty much. I have been using Windows 8 and love the live tiles so that's what got me thinking of the Nokia.

If that's the case, then I think you'll love the Nokia Lumia 920. I got a white one, but now I wish I had gone with red. Plus, you get a free wireless charger from AT&T.

One annoying thing about audible and the 920, you can't leave the app or else downloads will pause, you have to sit there and watch them download it's pretty annoying.

People here keep raving about the Note 2, but I am not a fan of the size.

Maybe the Galaxy sIII?

I would wait for the announcement of the Galaxy 4 though.

This is what I was going to say.

But it seems like you're just bored. It happens. You don't seem to have any real paticular reason for wanting to switch other than trying something new.

What I would do, is scour Craigslist for a used Lumia 900 and a used Galaxy Nexus. That should give you a great idea of what using each OS is like.

I like it to, but lack of Developer support and apps still make me avoid Windows Phones.

I own both Note 2 and Lumia 920, my personal preference is towards the Note 2 simply for the fact that I am a heavy tweaker, and like to use it as such. Lumia 920 is a nice in-between between iOS and Android, but you may have some trouble finding some apps you want on it, althrough I find that I usually don't need to install as many apps as I do vs iOS and Android since the WP7/8 platform does many things natively very well.

Lack of Airplay on any other phone OS makes me avoid them. :)

It's called MiraCast/Wi-Di on this side of the pond. And it will be the standard very soon, and much more successful than AirPlay.

I keep hearing that, but it's just not happening. There will have to be a major push to get the standard included on some prominent STB's or built in to TV's or something. As it is, I have three devices that can do airplay that I didn't buy with any intention of using airplay but now I use it almost daily.
