Thinking of relocating from Orlando to Charlotte, how do you decide?

I am posting this to see what other people think. This is a HUGE life decision.

Orlando has always been my dream city so to speak. Have wanted to live here since Jr. High (we are talking 1983) Moved here in 1994 and spent 7 very happy years here. Moved away in 2001 and was so unhappy with both places I lived that I moved back 2 years ago.

I love the part of town I live in and LOVE the Florida weather, outside of the summer months. I also love the hell out of my apartment. I am on a lake, the view is awesome and the apartment is large and has a great feel to it.

However? for the first time in 20 years my brother and sister and 5 nieces and nephews all live in the same town. I spent a week in Charlotte earlier this month and I really liked what I saw. Trees everywhere, everything looks new etc. My sister lives in an upscale part of town, where I would most likely live. My brother lives on a lake in South Carolina, has a ski boat etc etc.

So how the hell do I decide?
I can move there and be near family. Or I can stay in the town where I have always been happy.

I am planning to go back in early February and will most likely make a decision then.

BTW: Job is not a factor, although I might lose some income from the move.

If your family left Charlotte over the years would you still like it? If yes, the I say move. If not, stay.

My 2 cents

Family is most enjoyed in short visits. Well, that's my feeling, anyway. Driving from Orlando to Charlotte takes about 8 hours, so it is close enough to weekend trip it several times a year. It's your call, of course, but I'd stay where you are happy.

What's life like in Orlando? Its hard to make a judgment without knowing exactly what you're leaving.

You only get one family and it seems like a great opportunity to spend more time with em.

You'll probably fit right in with the other whackjobs in Florida - I vote yes.

The modern age will not sustain your way of life in any areas that aren't capable of natural capacity.

You should move to Atlanta.

I lived for 4 years in Lake Wylie, SC, @ 10 miles south of Charlotte. It is a great area, I would have no qualms living there again. Been to the Orlando area, IMHO Charlotte > there, but YMMV....

Great question, but I won't be able to answer that till I get there.

Brother will most likely be there for next 15+ years. Just retired from Navy and took job with Duke Power.

I'd say make a couple visits and have the family show you around. The more you see the better informed decision you can make. Moving is an inherently emotional issue and it SHOULD be. You want to be happy. Getting exposure to potential new location can only help you get a feel for things. IMO, put your decision on hold until you have more time to consider the situation.

Stay in Orlando. You can always start your own family there! Let your siblings make the trek down to visit you!
