Thinking of picking up a controller - which one?

Yeah, that's cool, but nothing that you've posted pertains to anything that I've posted. The MotionJoy drivers leave nothing to be desired. They turn a PS3 controller into a fully functional 360 controller (as far as your PC is concerned), and do much more.

i used motion joy before and my PS3 pad. it wasnt for me, it worked as a generic controller at the time but i'm sure MJ has been updated since then.

I personally don't own a 360 and don't really care to buy a 360 controller, so I just bought a cheap $2 bluetooth dongle on ebay and use my PS3 DS3 on my pc as well. I used this for Darksiders, Super Meat Boy and Batman AA, all of which I picked up during the steam sale over the holidays.

MotionJoy is not the greatest, you can find alternatives if you search around a bit. I'll post a link if anyone wants the ones I use.

If you want a dedicated pc controller, I would recommend the logitechs, I have used several of their controllers and found them to be solidly built.

You need a special receiver for the PC in order to be able to use the wireless Xbox360 controllers. I just skimmed the thread, but wanted to mention that in case no-one has mentioned it before. I use the wired version to play just darksiders and other games on the pc that support it (which is an ever increasing number, more games that has support that I play, than not these days). Just plug it in, fire up the game, and play. I have not seen any other controller on the PC that works that easy. I know there is supposedly an X-input controller from logitech, but I dont know model, price etc.

I love my Logitech Wireless Rumblepad 2. As far as build quality goes, you're not going to beat that.

The compatibility isn't there for a lot of games, but that's the fault of developers only supporting the 360 controller. The XBOX360 Controller Emulator project has fixed it in every case for me.

The current version is much, much more usable than it was a few months ago. The version that I started with was a real pain to get the PS3 controller synced with your bluetooth dongle, but the new version is much easier.

Also, the new version doesn't require you to hit F8 during boot and disable driver signing because the drivers are finally signed so they just work.

In brief, they are the Logitech F310 (base), F510 (F310+rumble), F710 (F510+wireless) controllers. In an earlier post I mentioned I have been using the F510 - so far so good, I'm satisfied with its build and functionality.

If you can wait a bit Razer's Onza, their Xbox 360 controller will be out. From the previews I saw it's going to be pretty bad ass. The d pad being 4 separate nubs seems so logical but I've never seen it before.

I got the 360 controller with receiver for $30 before. I'd recommend that, but the prices seem really inflated now.

If I were looking for a new controller I would probably go for that new Razer one.

It is surely an improvement when the d-pad is used for weaponswitching and such, but may be a hindrance in games using d-pad for movement. Time will tell.
