Thinking of Moving to Serial ATA

I am running a system currently with 3 Maxtor EIDE hard drives, and I'd like to move to SATA instead (my drives are kind of small, and I want to move up to larger ones).

What kind of experiences have people had with SATA? Any problems I should watch out for? I've read a few things mentioned about Windows XP install issues, but I haven't followed up on that.

Any advice is appreciated!

Worth what? The 160GB Barracuda costs $8.50 more in SATA form. Not exactly a significant difference. Personally, I like SATA. True, there is little to no speed difference, but the cables are so small. Keeps the inside of your case neater. The only issue you might have is like you already said: You need a driver disk to be able to install Windows. It's not a big deal, you boot off the CD, hit F6, put in the disk, then load Windows normally. No sweat.

Some need a driver disk to install windows and some don't. I am running an asus 865PE motherboard and didn't need to install any driver for Serial ATA at all. Windows installed smoothly without any issues. But it does depend on your motherboard so make sure of that first.

you only need drivers if the SATA controller is an onboard PCI device (like any RAID controller). some of the intel boards have the SATA built into the south bridge, which doesnt require drivers. as for whether or not to get SATA, if you RAID 0 two raptor drives, it is well worth it. th speed is incredible, and boot times are noticeable shorter.

I think it's worth it:
1) sata are cheaper compared to eide at the same size hd comparison.
2) cabling is better, they are small and flexible
3) theoretical max transfers of 150 vs 100.
